Detoxing your closet

How many times have you opened your closet and checked out your wardrobe and thought to yourself, β€œWell, I have nothing to wear”. How many times have you felt frustrated at not being able to put together a look that leaves you satisfied? Or how many times have you said to yourself β€œI hate everything”?

Well, guess what? Life is too short to feel anything short of flawless.

I did put together a few little steps and tips on how to look and feel your best every day and fast because this is New York City and we all want to look fabulous for any occasion.

Dressing should be easy and fun not a daily struggle filed with stress.

Tip #1 All Out & Question Time

It’s time to get piece by piece out and reevaluate what you should keep. It’s time to get rid of the items that make you feel anything less than amazing.

When trying on various pieces of your wardrobe ask yourself, β€œWhen was last time I used this? Does this fit me? Does it work with at least 3 other items in my wardrobe?”

Tip #2 Getting Organized

After you set aside what makes you feel fabulous and you wish to keep, it’s time to get it all reorganized. The easiest way to start arranging your closet is for you to hang as much as you can (you are more likely to see it faster and grab it than something that is stuffed into Β your drawers) and make it an easy eye catch. Organize your clothes by color and by type and store only small items in your drawers when possible.

Tip #3 Reevaluating Shopping

Before you go out shopping, take note of your current wardrobe. You need to know exactly what you are working with. You don’t want to spend money on things that are similar to what is already in your wardrobe. This will help you identify what’s really missing. The key here is for you to take photos of your wardrobe.

Tip #4 Your Lifestyle

Look at your lifestyle and think about the imagine that you want to show of yourself, to others. To look good and feel good you need pieces that not only work well together but that fit in with your day activities too. Think about your daily tasks and how your clothes can help you to not only to look good but to feel comfortable.

Think how easy and fast you want to put a look together whether it is for work or a date night.

Tip #5 Identify Your Essentials

Knowing your closet like the palm of your hands is essential as it helps you to identify what’s missing and what looks great on you.

Tip #6 Imagine Your Ideal Wardrobe

Put together a shopping plan. Start by spending some time looking around online for ideas about what would best reflected your style and body type. Making a vision board (using Pinterest is a great modern solution) will help you to visualize this easier, if there’s a need, considerer hiring a specialist personal shopper to help you and show your ideas. The last thing you want to do is to go shopping while unsure of what does and does not work for you.

Also, purchasing an outfit doesn’t always mean it’s ready to wear. Take it to a tailor and get it adjusted according to your body. A well-fitted outfit can mean the difference between an okay outfit and a fantastic one.

Tip #7 Forgive Yourself And Go Shopping

Go for pieces that are versatile and offer maximum impact.

Going back to the step where you evaluated your ideal wardrobe now it’s time to evaluate the items that will impact your look.

Versatile pieces can be worn in a variety of different ways. A simple twist here and there will make all difference.

Tip #8 Quality X Quantity

It’s always better to spend less money, right? Wrong!!!

Actually, it’s always better to spend a little extra money on high quality pieces than cheap ones that won’t last. I would suggest shopping sample sales if you need to save the extra money.

Tip #9 Don’t Forget About Accessories

Accessories such as jewelry, sun glasses, handbags, shoes, hats, scarves etc., can definitely lights up any look and they are essential. Do not over spend on trendy items but do invest in a great pair of shoes, belts and handbags for sure. Make you’re your accessories will help you create a signature style – to do this, you just need to invest in a few key items.

Tip #10 Go have fun!
